Cry beloved country

Dear Mama Rowena,
You must be wondering why am writing to you because I take a while without communicating to you.I don't do it on purpose.I promise I will improve since I know well that writing is your favorite.Today I will start on a very sad note.I feel angry because our beloved Uganda is getting deeper in its grave every day that passes. Can you imagine the people that we trusted our country with are the same people that are burying the nation? They came to us and promised us Heaven on earth and we listened and humbly we went to the polls and we elected them to the mighty house called The Parliament of the Republic of Uganda.A couple of months down the road they have decided to pay us(we taxpayers) back by approving to be given 103 million Uganda shillings($43830) to buy themselves new wheels as they call them. I feel betrayed and so are many Ugandan. Why buy very expensive SUVs at this time when our economy is in the mortuary? Why now when we have many people dying of a weird disease called nodding disease in northern Uganda where there is no medication? Why now when they have not concentrated on constructing us better roads? You will agree with me that if you drive zig-zag in Uganda the police will not pull you over because they will know you are sober and trying to dodge the potholes. If you drove zig-zag in U.S they will pull you over asap because they will be sure you are drunk. WHY NOW?

The government is now going to fork out a staggering Shs 170 billions to purchase them the SUVs yet we the taxpayers have totally disagreed on that. Many a citizen have called this daylight robbery and others have called it GREED.Personally I don't know what to call it but if someone shouted out the words SHAME UPON THEM,I would definitely say "Shout louderrrrrrrrr"
Our dear teachers around the country have cried for a long time to have their salaries increased from 200000 Uganda shillings ($86)per month to at least 500000 Uganda Shillings ($213) but no one has listened to this. We are what we are mostly because of these poorly paid teachers. Am sure they deserve more but unfortunately they are forgotten heroes. Shs170 billions would go a long way in paying the teachers.People are dying in the hospitals everyday due to lack of medicine. We do have power cuts in the country every other day and many businesses are affected by this yet OUR money is now going to buy them SUVs.
Apparently no member of parliament has no car. They have cars and should continue using those. Not so Mama?
I think am complaining a lot here Mama but am still asking myself where the patriotism went? I agree they need cars but not one which costs 103 millions. No way. With half that money they can get a very good overhauled SUV from Japan then the rest of the money can go to do better work like buying more medicine for the hospitals, education, orphanages,AIDS awareness, etc.
Mama Rowena, when you lived in Uganda back in the 1960s am sure things were different than they are today.Do you remember the famous Bujagali Falls? They are no more.Recently I took my girlfriend there and along the way I told her how spectacular and beautiful they were. Deep inside me I was happy because I knew this would be another reason for her to love my country more :) On reaching there, there was no falls anymore and I almost cried. As a young boy we would come here on school trips and just enjoy the scenery and appreciate how God is a great artist. The guy we found there told us the Falls were done away with because the government wanted to construct a dam so they can generate electricity which hasn't been done yet. Just praying that things change for the better.
On a lighter note, our weather is no longer friendly, its too hot here and cold drinks traders are smiling all the way to the bank. I think God forgot to switch off the heater and that's why the heat is too much. You must be saying that I shouldn't complain because the winter is hitting you hard. What a life,we complain all the time.
By the way,I forgot to tell you that I love you so much and do miss you.It was nice talking to you a couple of days ago.
Ohhhhhhh I have to leave now so I can go buy a candle from the corner shop before they close. You are wrong,am not buying a candle for a romantic dinner,am buying it because there is a power cut. We use candles for their exact use > Light.
Have a good day Mama Rowena.
Yours,
Seggy
